@ mikejl
You are so right, there are just too many options now that it is easier to move around between games.

@Alex
I was actually just thinking about this very thing yesterday. I really like WAR, but it doesn't have me hooked like WoW did or Galaxies did so long ago.

I was feeling that this is not my game .. its just not clicking. I actually quit for a month and played EQ2 instead.
Ohh .. that was WoW about month after launch. Apx four years ago. Played little more .. did sever transfer with guild after all the server queue and lag issues and WoW became my most played MMOs.
Seems some are getting that same feeling I had years ago. I think with more options now (WoW, LOTRO expansions, EQ2, etc) it’s easier to move to a different game.

My sales pitch is essentially a warning against the game.

"If you don't like PvP, you won't like WAR."

Any PvPer who hears that message should be ready to jump right in to kill some people!

Apparently some kill collectors will give you an unlock when you max them out, so it's so so bad a thing that you're doing that!

Great question Alex, and I decided to answer it at my new blog, because it is such a great question with such a unique answer.

http://tomeaddict.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-do-you-sell-war-to-wow-players.html

The simple and short answer:
You don't.

But I give some good reasoning and another answer to help with it.

What I have been telling people is almost exactly the line you used.

"If you like PvP then you will love WAR. And even if you don't like PvP you might end up liking WAR anyways because, frankly, WoW does PvP wrong. And they don't even spell it right. It is spelled RvR. You don't know what PvP is supposed to be until you try RvR"

I was never, ever a PvP fan. PvE raiding fan here. Black Temple, Mt Hyjal, that sort of thing. I had exactly 1 life time kill by the time we got attuned for Tier 6. That is right, just 1. and I don't know how that even happened. I think I might have been grouped with someone when they decided to gank a passerby. I really don't know where that kill came from. Nope, no PvP for me thank you. Had no intention of even bothering with WAR. I thought, cool, a PvP oriented game for folks who go in for that sort of thing. That is great. Hopefully Blizz will see that they are the masters of PvE and raid content and will concentrate on that more rather than screwing up my raiding game by trying to balance the classes for PvP content. Well, it looks like Blizz hasn't figured that out yet and is going to try to be all thing to all people. Here is hoping they wise up because I will still play each new expansion for a while if they don't gimp their game up. But suffice it to say, when I grudgingly decided to try the game out, at a friends request is was more than a bit pleasantly surprised at what PvP was supposed to be. One thing I will never do again is go into AV or any other WoW BG again for any reason. Even if I desperately need a certain trinket for raiding. And don't get me started on arenas. Tried it once. Decided I didn't like the whole, "ok guys, tear that shadow priest a new &$$#ole and then we will deal with everyone else." Deciding which 2 dots you are going to throw before you are dead just doesn't do it for me.
