Dismayed by the speed at which Marauders kill single mobs? Bored with “kill ten mobs” quests? Solo-ing PQs taking forever? Well, it’s because you’re doing it wrong. Below, the proper way to quest for any self-respecting Black Orc.

Step 1: Get your weapons and tactics sorted out. I preffer to do it using sword&board and the tanking tactics but if using a two-hander and dps tactics works for you, I can’t argue.

Step 2: Put Raze in your level 2 morale slot.

Step 3: Get Da Toughest up.

Step 4: Round up anywhere between 6 and 12 mobs. The more the merrier. Maneuver around a bit so that you’re facing all of them.

Step 5: Hack away. Get Tougher ‘n Nails, Savin Me Hide and whatever else you use up. Then make sure to use Big Slash every time it’s off cooldown.

Step 6: Use Raze once you get enough morale points. Remember the positioning (step 4).

Step 7: Rinse and repeat, while thanking the devs for not including repair costs. Play something with a tempo of at least 180 bpm while doing it.

There you have it - really, there’s no reason for you to fight just one target at a time, considering your obscene damage mitigation and self-healing capabilities. Not to mention all the people that’ll get envious (Hot damn, I’ve seen this Black Orc fighting 15 mobs without a healer. Wow, just wow!)

Later Update: If you’re specced Da Boss and have WAAAAAAGH, that’s even better. Also curious about how Can’t Hit Me from Da Toughest would work. Will test it at some point and post the results.

  1. Thanks for this great guide to AOE grinding with a Black Orc. I learned this technique while questing with ‘Slingshot’ on the Badlands server. It speeds up grinding significantly (especially for the first part of a PQ). If you add a healer and another Black Orc, you can bring down even larger mobs faster. It takes some practice to master, but when you do, it’s fun and effective.

Keep up the excellent writing! I really enjoy your site.

  2. Thanks for the comment. Glad you like the site!

  3. I have been *dying* to try this out since I sat down with the class skill lists on wardb and noticed the BO gets a good number of AoE attacks. One of my lvl 70’s in WoW is a Prot Pally, and AoE farming is something they are extremely good at - I want to see how well a BO translates.

    Thanks for the details!

  4. I’ve been debating on whether or not to use a Black Orc or a chosen as a Destruction Alt.

That said, what level is this AOE maneuver available? Also, Which one is more fun to play?

  5. As low as rank 20 I guess?

As for your other question, well you’re on a Black Orc blog, what do you think my answer will be? :)

But really now, the best thing I can recommend is trying both classes until you get to level 11 or so. That should only take you a few hours for each and you can decide for yourself. I did and for my money, the Black Orc’s way more fun but if you like AoE buffs/debuffs and such, give Chosen a go as well.

  6. Oh yeah… this IS a Black Orc Blog. LOL. Anyway, I’ve leveled a Black Orc and Chosen to around level 7, and I haven’t felt any noticeable differences, other than the whole trouble with running out of action points from spamming the same attack set.

  7. I just hit 20 last night, and realized that I could be killing dwarves much, much faster this way. I’m glad to see the tactic bears fruit! I had trouble arranging stunties the way I wanted em, but I figure with practice that’ll change. Next stop, 1000 dead Slayers!
